Refugees Need Action, Not Just Advocacy. Urge UNGA to Action Instead of Advocacy.

As the UN General Assembly approaches this September, we urge the Assembly to shift their focus from awareness raising to program implementation.

The UN’s Youth 2030 Progress Report makes it clear that the UN’s powers of advocacy are strong.

Unfortunately, advocacy does not always lead to action. It is action that the youth needs.

Advocacy can only do so much without action to back it up.

We ask the General Assembly to focus on the funding of program implementation rather than on program support. Having cheerleaders on the sidelines means nothing without a team to cheer for. Without critical funding, programs meant to uplift our youth and shape them into smart, confident, successful individuals are left wanting.

We know that education is transformative for girls. By staying in school until grade 9, they substantially increase their odds of marrying after age 18.

We know without an educational pathway forward, youth drop out and work in dangerous manual labor for low wages.

Let us fund the programs that the youth needs. Let us fund the programs that will transform lives.
